The way businesses exchange invoices across Europe is changing rapidly. If you run a jewelry business that sells to other companies, government institutions, or receives invoices from suppliers, you need to know about Peppol. This standardized e-invoicing network is becoming mandatory in more and more EU countries, and Gem Logic makes it easy to stay compliant.
What is Peppol?
Peppol stands for Pan-European Public Procurement Online. It's a secure network that allows businesses and governments to exchange electronic documents like invoices, orders, and credit notes in a standardized format.
Think of it like email for invoices, but with one key difference: every invoice follows the exact same structure, so receiving systems can process them automatically without human intervention.
The flow is simple: your business sends an invoice through Gem Logic (which acts as your Access Point), the Peppol network routes it securely, and it arrives at your customer's system. Every Peppol invoice uses the same XML structure (UBL format), which means receiving systems can automatically read and process invoices without manual data entry.
Every participant in the Peppol network is verified and has a unique Peppol ID. This eliminates invoice fraud and ensures your documents reach the right recipient.
Why your jewelry business needs Peppol
Multiple EU countries are making Peppol e-invoicing mandatory for business-to-business transactions. If you're not prepared, you could face compliance issues or lose business opportunities.
EU e-invoicing timeline
Belgium - E-invoicing via Peppol is already mandatory for invoices to government institutions (B2G). B2B mandates are on the horizon.
France - E-invoicing will become mandatory for all B2B transactions starting 2026, with a phased rollout based on company size.
Germany - B2B e-invoicing mandate planned for 2025-2027, requiring businesses to be able to receive e-invoices first, then send them.
Rest of the EU - The EU's ViDA (VAT in the Digital Age) initiative aims to standardize e-invoicing across all member states by 2028.
Even if e-invoicing isn't mandatory in your country yet, being Peppol-ready gives you a competitive advantage. Many larger companies and government institutions already prefer or require suppliers to send Peppol invoices.

Sending invoices via Peppol
- Enable Peppol in your settings - Go to your Gem Logic settings and enable the Peppol integration. You'll need to provide your company's VAT number to register on the Peppol network.
- Add your customer's Peppol ID - For each customer you want to send Peppol invoices to, add their Peppol ID to their customer record. This is usually their VAT number prefixed with a country code (e.g., BE:0123456789).
- Create and send your invoice - Create your invoice as you normally would in Gem Logic. When you're ready to send, simply click the 'Send via Peppol' button. The invoice is automatically converted to the correct UBL format and delivered to your customer.
Gem Logic shows you the delivery status of each Peppol invoice, so you'll know exactly when your invoice was received by your customer's system.
